2004-07-22 [Khayman]: Posted my two entries. Got Marissa's permission for the first part of Battle for Caerwyn, the second part is mine. These wikis already had the stories divided into chapters, I didn't want them all on one page because of length. So, I posted up the pages that I wanted to enter (didn't do the whole stories because they were outside the word limit. Let me know if this is a problem, and I can probably fix it so that both entries consist of one page each, instead of multiple pages. Also, the Battle for Caerwyn wiki is 'owned' by [Shade of Darkness], which is just another screen name of mine, not a separate person.

I'm thinking of starting a wiki where people can post their stories and recieve tips in return, because I've noticed a lot of people make comments like [tiragon]'s, that they want to or will enter but don't think they're any good. I'm not the best myself, but I think I could probably give at least a few good tips on grammar, detail, etc., and maybe it would help people write better and/or become more confident in their writing.

2004-08-26 [Khayman]: oh no you don't!!! hey, we don't *quite* enter to win (although there is always the hope, but I've never won with one of mine...). A big part of entering the contests is to get your work *out there* for other people to read. Not only do the judges read it, but often (usually I think) fellow participants will read the other stories. As for the wiki page, do you already have story saved on word or somewhere? or do you plan on typing it directly to a wiki? (if it's already saved, it will be easier to make the page). well, whichever it is... : in the box "go to wiki-page" on the right of the screen, type in the title of your story. If it comes up saying "this is an empty page," you're good to go
2004-08-26 [Khayman]: (if not, you'll have to come up with new names for the page until you get an empty one). then, click edit this wiki page. If your story is saved somewhere else, you can cut and paste it from where it is saved directly into the text box. If not, that is where you will type the story. Make sure to fix paragraphs (usually by spacing between them) as often elftown gets rid of indents. Also, if you have any italicized words, you type < i >*Text Here* < / i> without the spaces inside of the < >. for bold words, < b >*text* </ b >. not sure if < u>*text*< /u > works for underline... Then, once your story is typed/pasted and fixed up, to link to it you just post this wherever you want to place the

2005-01-22 [pixish]: previously when holding competitions, We used to eiether choose a winner and then first and second were given to the people choice winners, or the peoples choice got the 1st place and we chose 2nd and 3rd ourselves. It seemed a good way to work things.

2005-01-22 [pixish]: It depends on who we think should win actually :-P With polls, you sometimes find that the people who are better known than others sometimes get more votes than something you might think was totally original and beautiful (art wise) So If we agree with the winner of the poll then we leave that as it is and then we choose who we think deserves to have 2nd and third place. If the winner of the poll is someone who has lower quality work, then we usually choose our own winner and then go with the poll for the others and also choose a most original entry....If that helps...

2005-01-22 [pegasus1000]: I would prefer judges to pic winners for tis compatition.. and have a seporate peoples choice award (just one of thoes) because of biase.
2005-01-23 [mywolfalways]: I usually run my contests with poll and judge. I make two separate badges for each. The people I use for judge's don't have a profile on Elfwood or anything, so it's fair and unbiased. I also usually run my contests anonymous though.

2005-01-23 [Khayman]: I like [pixish]'s suggestion. That way, you're not completely throwing out the polls, and you can be sure that the winner isn't chosen simply because s/he is more well-known. If you choose to do 4 winners, 2 from polls 2 from judges, I'd say don't have the same person win twice, give others an opportunity to win (I also like [mywolfalways]'s suggestion about 2 separate badges for this). "most original" is always a nice thing as well, and something that I think should be done more often (especially with art contests :-\ ) There's an advertising forum? :p should have guessed...lol

2005-11-01 [Khayman]: [chaika] - I am about to shut down the wikis that my story is posted on to protect better protect the story (I've decided that I do want it to be published when it is finished, and so am going to minimize how often it appears online, and start controlling where it appears online). I don't want to clse the wiki before the poll is finished here, however, so can it please be closed soon? (the battle for caerwyn wiki is also being closed, but I don't think that will affect the poll :p)
2005-11-01 [Khayman]: as a side-note, I'm not only going to 'close' the wikis, but will be removing the story entirely from the internet until it is finished enough to register it with the US Copyright Office. also... since i noticed chaika has been gone 3 days and not sure when she'll be back, i'm going to go ahead and remove the wikis today instead of waiting for the poll to close.
